Who We Are

Master Press Enterprises initially started back in 1988, when I designed my first 10 characters, after being an X-Men fan since 1984. I created my first 200 characters between 1988 and 1991. I had so many ideas and concepts, but what was so great about them was that they didn’t mimic anything in comics that was available on the market. Uniqueness is a wonderful thing, yes?

High school was an interesting time for me. I was already printing B&W comics by this point, and selling them to anyone who was interested, fellow students, teachers that supported my creativity, even local comic stores. I also worked with a few other classmates who were also artists, and co-created a few characters together, such as Justin Maruco co-creating Implosion with me. I also met Greg Capullo in 1992, and his advise has led me to where I am now.

After high school, my 2nd job made things even more exciting. I chose to work at my local newspaper, and since I wanted to get a larger audience, I met up with the publisher, and discussed 3 different concepts I had for a weekly comic strip. I tossed Oblivion, Rupture and Code Blue at him. Surprisingly, he liked Code Blue most of the 3, (which is the one I liked least at the time). Given it was the least developed, I jumped into Code Blue, and brainstormed. Having Stan Lee and Chris Claremont as my favorite writers gave me their viewpoints and experiences on what grabs people's attention. I did something I had never done before with this strip. I didn’t write it in advance, I added to the story each week, and saw how my brain manifested the future as it went along. Code Blue ended up raising the press run by 700 copies or more each day Code Blue was in the paper. I never expected it to rise that much.

So, as I was also working in the mailroom, a particular fellow by the name of Chris Robertson was hired. We were both artists and musicians, so the friendship and bonding evolved very quickly. While jamming, we also created 3 primary characters together; Seven, the Seer and 101. The 4th chapter of the strip was going to introduce them. However, a new editor came along, and wanted to totally revamp the newspaper. He didn’t like me, and deliberately canceled my strip, midway through the 3rd chapter, 2 years after Code Blue was first published. I, of course, didn’t let that stop me.

In 2000, I met a corny fellow named Mark Greulach, and we created the Time and Space portion of my universe together. During that time period, I also chose to finish the last 5 pages of chapter 4 of Code Blue, and release both titles in comicbook format. I also started releasing music albums and DJing and performing live at clubs, so the comics got sidelined for a bit.

We move along to 2014. I had just released my 4th and 5th studio albums, and decided that I wanted to continue where I left off with my comics, and moved to full-color status when I printed. I started delving into The Tern, a new series based on Prolepsis, Seven and Soul, who all first appeared in issue 4 of Code Blue. After job issues, then a shattered wrist, anxiety attacks, the Covid nonsense, I moved into 2020 through 2022 with more energy and confidence than ever.

I released Code Blue 3 and 4 and Time and Space 2, in full color, in magazine size format. People really got excited about them, and in 2023, I launched The Tern in full color in comic size format. 100 of the 1st issue sold in the first month I released it, and issue 2 has just been released, with issue 3 in process. I also sell T-shirts featuring The Tern, and am working on 3 new albums simultaneously! Stay tooned for the excitement in 2023 and beyond!
